Kaplan Lawyers PC 2019 Scholarship Winner

Grace L. Armann’s scholarship-winning essay on distracted driving sums up the many challenges mobile device use poses on our roads. As she points out in her piece, over 3,000 deaths and more than 400,000 injuries are caused by distracted driving every year. As vehicles have become safer, distraction has emerged as one of the greatest threats that motorists are facing.

Grace discusses the many ways drivers and concerned parents can combat the problem. We not only need to urge our lawmakers to take the problem seriously, we also need to encourage better habits, both in ourselves and in our friends and family.

“As with any new advancement in technology, there are both negative and positive aspects,” Grace writes. “It is how we handle the bad, how we react to the problems, how we choose to solve the situation and protect ourselves and others that matters.”
