Kaplan Lawyers PC is Proud to Serve Manhattan
It all happens in Manhattan…
Manhattan is the center of the economic world, a hub of international diplomacy and an ever-present cultural trendsetter. It is the most densely populated part of the most densely populated city in the United States. Simply put, it is unlike any other place on Earth.
The Beginnings of Manhattan
Originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans, Manhattan was purchased by Dutch colonists in 1626 and officially incorporated as a city in 1653. During the Revolutionary War, Manhattan was controlled by British soldiers for seven years, serving as the center of their North American operations until 1783, when George Washington and his army returned to Manhattan and regained control of the city. In 1810, Manhattan, which then constituted the entirety of New York City, become the most populous city in the United States.
The 20th century saw Manhattan further cement its place as a global icon of fashion, business and culture. New York also served as a stage of the struggles that shaped the United States. Progress for New Yorkers of all backgrounds sprang from the efforts of labor strikes and civil rights protests. Changing demographics, growing skylines and budding art movements also helped shape and define Manhattan into the city that we live in today.
A Populous Metropolis
Today, nearly four million people inhabit Manhattan on any given day, when commuters and travelers are added to the resident population. It is so densely populated that if everyone on the planet lived in the same proximity as they do in Manhattan, the entire global population would fit in New Zealand.
This dense population makes Manhattan a hub like no other in the United States. Though the city’s infrastructure has proven capable of handling the incredible amount of daily traffic, it can also be quite chaotic and hazardous for drivers, pedestrians and commuters.
For example, in 2015, there were 2,519 pedestrian injuries in Manhattan. There were also 1,324 bicyclist injuries in Manhattan. Yet, there were even more injuries to those in motor vehicles. In 2015, there were 4,536 injuries to occupants of vehicles involved in crashes in Manhattan. Vehicle accident-related injuries are the most common example of personal injuries, but there are several different ways in which New Yorkers suffer injuries. That’s where our services come in…
Proud to Serve Manhattan
At Kaplan Lawyers PC, we are proud to offer legal representation to people who have suffered serious injuries in Manhattan. There’s never a slow day in this borough, and there are plenty of ways in which people fall victim to the negligence of others. Here are a few ways that we help our clients:
Vehicle Accidents – Out of every 20 vehicle crashes, nearly 19 are the result of human error. Drivers are extremely fallible; some of the most common causes of vehicle crashes are intoxication, distraction, reckless driving and speeding. Vehicle crashes come in many different forms – rear-end collisions, pedestrian collisions and public transportation crashes, to name just a few. From the financial district to Marble Hill, serious crashes can occur along any of the roadways in Manhattan.
Slip and Fall Accidents – Manhattan hosts many opportunities for slip- and fall-related injuries. Slick floors and sidewalks, broken steps, broken handrails, cluttered walkways, and hazardous subway platforms represent only some of the most common causes of slip and fall injuries. Older adults are especially vulnerable to serious, debilitating injuries stemming from a fall.
Workplace Accidents – In addition to being a tourist hub, Manhattan is also the place of work for so many New Yorkers. For example, construction workers are a common fixture of daily life in our city, and they often work in hazardous environments, leading to the high rate of construction worker injuries as compared to other sectors. These injuries can be caused by scaffolding collapses, slip and fall injuries, and equipment-related injuries, among other factors.
Medical Malpractice – There are several medical facilities in Manhattan, including Bellevue Hospital Center, NewYork-Presbyterian hospitals and N.Y.U. Langone Medical Center. Medical errors are one of the leading causes of death and injury in the United States, according to Johns Hopkins. We are proud to stand up for the rights of patients who have been injured by medical malpractice.
Vacation Accidents – New York is one of the most sought-after vacation destinations in the world. Millions flock to our city every year to take pictures in Time Square, eat at restaurants in Little Italy, visit Rockefeller Center or shop at Macy’s. If you’re not familiar with New York, the never-ending activity and sensory overload of the bright city lights can be disorienting. If you’ve suffered a serious injury while visiting New York, that dream vacation could quickly turn into a nightmare. At Kaplan Lawyers PC, we not only represent New York residents, we also represent visitors who have suffered injuries in Manhattan.
